SMILO joins forces with Blue to launch a new Call

This year, SMILO is once again partnering with Blue foundation to launch a new call for proposals of SMILO Islands Fund. This call aims at supporting the small islands of the network that are actively engaged in the Sustainable Island labelling process to implement concrete solutions identified by islands stakeholders in a holistic territorial approach. This partnership will support grassroot organisations contributing to the local governance and carrying concrete actions that can make a difference for islands sustainable development.

For the Blue Islands Call 2026, we have decided to take a fresh approach to the format and structure of the call that will be based on:

• A community-centred and innovative format, with the selection of the three winning projects through social media engagement and public vote;

• A simplified application process for islands wishing to apply, requiring only a short video pitch of the project to be submitted, followed by a complete project proposal requested from the three selected projects;

• Greater involvement, autonomy, and creativity for candidate island organizations in promoting their projects on social media and through the public selection process, thereby strengthening the mobilization of island communities and exchanges within the SMILO community.
